The Event

The Roon the Toon 10K road race starts and finishes at Kilmarnock’s Ayrshire Athletics Arena
The route takes competitors ‘Roon the Toon’, through the town centre and surrounding countryside, over a fast and mainly flat course.
It is an iconic course, with great en route entertainment and at the finish you'll be presented with a great race medal and the best value goody bag anywhere, including a free ticket to a Killie home gane (conditions apply)
In addition to the footrace the event also features a Wheelchair race (racing chairs and PPE required), a Stroller Roll which allows entrants pushing prams / buggies / wheelchairs to compete (self propelled wheelchair users compete in the main race). NB: the Stroller Roll is non competitive i.e. there are no prizes and you start at the back of the field. If you are likely to get irritated at not being able to pass fellow runners, it is probably not for you.
After the race why not join us for the post race party courtesy of the fabulous Park Hotel. Get a FREE pint, Prosecco or fruit juice and enjoy heavily discounted prices on the post race buffet.
Any competitor completing 5 Roon the Toons will also qualify for a unique bonus sweatshirt /hoodie.

Getting there & parking

The Ayrshire Athletics Arena is located on Queen’s Drive, Kilmarnock. There are excellent direct transportation links from the M77 and A71 allowing easy access for those travelling within the West of Scotland.

Parking in front of the Ayrshire Athletics Arena will be reserved for official vehicles, emergency vehicles and disabled parking.

Parking for competitors will be available close to the Ayrshire Athletics Arena at Scott Ellis playing fields – Newmill Road, Kilmarnock KA1 3JB and at East Ayrshire Council Heaquarters, London Rd, Kilmarnock KA3 7BU.

Public transport

The Ayrshire Athletics Arena is a 25 minute walk from Kilmarnock railway station and a 20 minute walk from Kilmarnock bus station.

Facilities

Changing and toilet facilities are available at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena.

Bags can be left in the indoor training area.

This area will be unsupervised.

The Ayrshire Athletics Arena will take no responsibility for the loss or damage of items left.

First Aid

A team of professional first aiders will be on duty throughout the day at the AAA and members of the team will patrol the race route. In addition, all the motorcycle outriders are first aid trained and are able to summon assistance.

Prizes

Each competitor will receive a race T shirt, a goody bag, a medal, a free tickets to a Kilmarnock FC home match (conditions apply) and a FREE pint / glass of Prosecco / fruit juice. This far exceeds the cost of entry (but you do have to finish :-).

The prize fund is over £4000. NB: Prizes are based on finish position / gun time not chip time.

There is a £100 bonus for breaking the men's, women's or wheelchair course records. Current record holders are -

Men - Sean Chalmers 29:58, Women - Annabelle Simpson 33:21, Wheelchair - Sean Frame 24:28

In addition to individual and running club team prizes, there will be male and female team prizes for:

first public service team (Police, Fire, NHS or Local Authority)
first secondary school team (age 15 and over, including staff) - outwith the Schools Challenge
first business team
first sports club team

There is no limit to the size of team but only the first 3 runner's places (based on overall finishing position) count toward the team result.

Results

All results are posted dynamically here - RESULTS. You can get a printout of your time at the timing company van and runners who have provided a mobile number should receive a text within one minute of finishing.
